CommentI was trying to photograph an adult pair of these Australasian Shovelers sitting next to each other preening on this log overhanging the water. However, I could not get an angle that gave me enough depth of field to keep both birds in focus, so when the female took off to dabble in the water nearby, I settled for capturing the male only in the company of two Pink-eared Ducks further back in the image. This was the best capture of a series, and I froze him, just as he was beginning to seriously contemplate following his female into the water. Time of capture 10:49.
