CommentNoticeable rich rufous crown extending to the nape. Back is brown with black steaks while the throat is creamy buff. Tail feathers are more dense and less lacy than other Emu-Wrens. Being a female it lacks the rich blue on the face, throat and breast of the male. Area in which the photo was taken (Northern Territory) is perhaps the best aid in identifying this bird, as the Southern and Mallee Emu-Wrens are confined to southern areas of the continent.
