This website will be off-line from midnight Sunday/Monday 29th April
We will be installing a major upgrade to the website software.
We anticipate that this will take most of Monday to complete and test;
the site should be available for members and guests by Tuesday 30th April.
Following the upgrade, please report any problems to [email protected]
This Search facility will search all website content, uploaded documents, and images. Some content on this site is restricted to BLP members; visitors may not be able to access all the items found. The search options button on the All Photos page (on the Photo Gallery drop-down menu), and on individual gallery pages, provides more options for searching images only.
We are now creating short video tutorials to help our members with common tasks.
Choose from the menu on the left of the page to select the video you wish to view. Some of these videos, denoted by (M), are member-only; you must be logged-in to access them.
If the video does not play in the frame in the browser window, click the Download button immediately below the video frame; you will then be able to either open the video in your default video player, or save for later viewing.
Ideally, the monitor that you use for image processing should be calibrated to ensure accurate reproduction of colour in your images, both on-screen and for printing. To do this requires a colourimeter - probably the best known is the Spyder - to measure the monitor's response and allow you to make adjustments to achieve accurate output. Sadly, many/most of us do not have access to such a device. But there are some things that you can do to check, and possibly improve, your monitor's performance which do not require any specialised equipment. The best site I've found for this is the set of LCD monitor test images at Lagom.nl. Give it a try - it's free, and could prove to be very useful.
This page has been set up to allow us to demonstrate new things which may be of interest to our members.
Our August 2013 Newsletter has an article on Video Editing Basics, describing how to use the free Windows Movie Maker software to produce a video movie. You can download Video Editing Basics, a short (about 45 seconds) movie which I created while writing the article to illustrate the various things that can be done with this video editor. The movie is a .wmv file, about 7 MB in size.
All our Mystery Reviewer critique articles are available here, with the most recent ones at the top. Those published within the last two years are member-only access; you must be logged in to see them.
The Mystery reviewer articles are written during the voting phase of the competition; the Mystery Reviewers do not know the identity of the photographers.
Planning a birding road trip to unfamiliar areas involves a lot of searching on the internet, and sometimes a little luck, to come up with a satisfactory itinerary. The aim of this resource is to share experiences with one another and make the planning exercise a little easier. A common frustration of photographers is finding the good locations to get those special shots; these reports should help to get you in the right area to find that sought-after bird.
Part of planning a road trip is locating suitable accommodation. The reports should contain recommendations regarding accommodation to be useful; links to websites would be useful. These recommendations are those of the contributor; they do not indicate that BirdLife Photography endorses the recommendations.
Please share your experiences with the rest of us by sending a report to the website administrator, Rob Parker: This email address is being protected from spambots. Commencing in October 2020, we hold regular Zoom presentations for our members, which we record for those unable to attend at the time or for later review. These video recordings are available here. If the video does not play in the frame in the browser window, click the Download button immediately below the video frame; you will then be able to either open the video in your default video player, or save the file for later viewing.
