CommentSpotted this little bloke and several others during a dawn sortie in coastal heathland near Port Macquarie. I’d noticed them moving through the low vegetation so I stood still (wearing a camo throw!) and hoped that one might fly up to one of the plentiful nearby dead speargrass heads; after a short wait this little bloke obliged. It was very chilly, and wet underfoot, but well worth the effort as I came away with several pleasing frames. I chose to submit this particular image as I quite like the eye contact and it also provides a nice cross-sectional view of the gorgeous long tail. Moreover, I thought the dawn sunlight on the setting well complemented and highlighted the bird's own earthy tones.
