CommentIn my search for Grasswren around Birdsville, I had found some tiny footprints around a clump of Canegrass at the peak of a sand dune. The following morning, I drove out to Big Red before sunrise and sat on the sand and waited. This little fellow ventured out from the vegetation and hit his brakes as soon as he saw the photographer, as still and quiet as I was. I managed to shoot a few frames before he hightailed it back to his refuge. I chose this photo as it shows the typical alert stance of the Grasswren with the windblown sand pattern fusing into the background distance. The fact that its tiny feet have left a little trail but can't be seen due to the softness and looseness of the sand adds whimsy to the otherwise harsh monotone environment.
