CommentI chose this dreamy emu-duo leisurely strolling through long vegetation, in part, due to their contrasting colours. Intrigued, I went searching for an explanation. What unfolded was a fascinating story of unique feather composition, pigmentation and genetics. The role coloration played in surviving harsh environments through heat regulation, sunlight reflection, predation camouflage and breeding. Male emus famously have reversed traditional gender roles and are dedicated stay-at-home dads. From cherished national symbol on the Commonwealth Coat of Arms to scorned military enemy, the emu remains culturally and spiritually significant today. A treasured living symbol of moving forward with gritty determination, perseverance and resilience.
