CommentNew kid on the block, complete with spiky hair! This bird and its sibling were very recently fledged and feeding independently on insects in grasses, still with a parent not too far away. At this inexperienced stage the young birds were quite unafraid and feeding within metres of the usual regularly passing humans in this reserve. It does seem a shame that their wariness of us apparently develops with experience!
Technical note: Initially I thought I may have goofed in not setting the lens aperture wide open which would have created a softer background. However I think the result I got, with some detail still present in the lakeside grasses behind the bird, is more suggestive of the local environment.
