A new version of Canon Digital Photo Professional DPP4.2.31 for RAW conversion of Canon camera files was released this week. It can be downloaded (182 Mb) for free from any Canon Professional Services hub. DPP uses proprietary Canon demosaicing algorithms to produce the cleanest and sharpest RAW conversions available for Canon camera images. Further details are available at http://www.canonrumors.com/

The new 'fine detail' Picture Style may be of interest to bird photographers. This Picture Style applies slightly more contrast to the 'whites' by reducing the roll-over of the gamma curve shoulder and by increasing the amount of sharpening applied during RAW conversion from 3 to 4 units on the 0-10 sharpening scale. Knowledgeable users will probably have been making this kind of adjustment to the gamma curve using the highlight slider on earlier versions of DPP. Nevertheless, the new Picture Style may be more convenient for some users.
