I took these photos around Macquarie Island last year and having trouble confirming what the species is and would very much like some help.

The first image of a Prion but not sure if its a Salvins or a Fairy or may not be either of these

The second I think maybe the Macquarie Shag

The third not sure if this is the Northern Giant-petrel

The last image I am wondering if this is a white morph of the Southern Giant-petrel

Bindi Hillen Offline New Member Posts: 7 Thank you received: 2	Hi Angela, I'm not great at prion ID so I won't do that one, but the first I would think was a Macquarie shag (as the most likely species). The next 2 are both Southern giant petrels, as they have the green tip rather than the red tip that would be expected with northern giant-petrel. (Note: Photos have appeared to be jumbled form the order you think it was made!) Hope that helps. Bindi

That is really helpful and really appreciate this. Yes the Prions are a little scary as it really is hard to make a definite ID as there are lots of little nuances! Cheers Angela
