I am having trouble with this bird, which I don't think I've seen before. I noticed it in the You Yangs, Victoria. It seems a little like an immature Satin or Spotted Bowerbird but I see the latter is thought to be extinct or near extinct in Victoria. Can anyone assist?
Thanks,
Michael

I think it has the wrong head and bill for a bower bird.  It's overall jiz looks like a thrush or close relative.  My best estimate is a Blackbird, in the process of moulting from juvenile to adult male.

Yes, agree with Simon.  Juvenile Blackbird.  Definitely not a bowerbird species.

Thanks, Simon and Ian, for your consensus on this identification. Not, it seems, a nearly extinct Spotted Bowerbird but a somewhat more common young Blackbird caught in the act of changing its outfit.
Cheers,
Michael
