This just came to my attention. A good opportunity for some of our younger members.

Dear Birding Enthusiasts,

We are inviting you to share your passion of birds with your youth – your children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends’ children. Anyone under 25 will be eligible to enter the Cicada Film Festival.

The Cicada Film Festival is a short-film competition that is helping youth to be heard. It is open to youth across South-East Queensland to make a film depicting environmental concerns and to suggest solutions. Entries can be from individuals or groups, in two age groups and two themes. There’s $4500 cash in prizes to be won – so why not join in the thrill of the shrill! We would love to have more entries around our beautiful birds of SE Qld and the importance of habitat for our birds.

Closing date: Threatened Species Day 7th September Winners Announced: Friday 30th October 2020

The Cicada Film Festival offers many benefits for our youth in many ways:

· Gaining confidence contributing to important issues that are shaping their lives.

· gaining skills and learn about issues as they research and work on their entries

· sharing knowledge

· winning prizes

· giving a direction for their career path.

· Just getting out and having fun and meeting like minded youth.

Entrants. They also grow confidence from Your organization could benefit from entries that address a cause or concern close to your heart; the films are made available on a YouTube Channel; and sharing films that align with the intent of your organization may help in increasing awareness and in achieving your aims and objectives. And of course, the environment will be better managed and more resilient due to an well-informed, articulate and active community. So we’ll all be winners!
