Ok all you Shore bird experts out there. Is it possible I photographed a Long-toed stint at WTP today? Any comments welcome.

No means an expert but my eye thinks the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, noting anything Calidris sp is very similar in appearance. This is mostly based upon the apparent size (sharp-tailed 18-22 cm vs long-toed 13-15cm), and though not a good indicator general appearance of the plumage (Personally the sharp-tailed appear less rounded). If it appeared to be similar in size to the common red-necked stints then this may change my mind.

This website refers to them as "although sharp-tailed sandpiper is 60% larger" - it also provides some good reference pictures for non-breeding plumage in AU/NZ regions.

Good work Jacob. Yes I came to the same conclusion after some more research. Shorebirds are always a challenge. Have a great Christmas Jacob.
