The latest version of the Canon DPP4 RAW conversion and adjustment software was released today. The new version supports more old cameras and adds a new feature for making local adjustments to brightness, contrast, hue and saturation. This feature is very limited, slow, and does not come near the sophistication of local adjustments that can be made in Photoshop. There is a set of unused buttons associated with this feature which I presume will be used in future upgrades to expanded the range of local adjustments available. Overall, not very exciting. The new software can be downloaded from Canon service hubs in Australia, Asia, Europe and the USA.

I note that GIMP version 2.10 has also been released, if anyone is interested. According to the release notes this now supports 16 bit files, at last - if so it could be used for editing of 16 bit TIFFs. I've not bothered with GIMP much but the last time I did I found it had some quite useful cloning tools but a steep learning curve for the uninitiated.
