Just a bit about myself. Grew up at Tantanoola near Mt Gambier in the south east of SA, on the family farm. I don't remember when I first became interested in birds, but I do remember by the time I went to school I was walking around most of the farm (750 acres).
Bought my first camera while at boarding school in Adelaide, but it was many years before I could afford to get anything which was seriously able to record images of birds. While at boarding school I joined the SA Ornithological Association (now Birds SA) then for a short time was a member of the RAOU. Several years after leaving school joined the RAAF (for 6 yrs) and trained as a photographer.
Continued my photographic interest, but with marriage and a family, bird watching was very casual. I worked full time and part time in photo labs in Adelaide and on weekends started photographing horse events and selling photos to the competitors and horse magazines.
Following marriage breakup about ten years ago, I got back into bird watching, joining up with various groups again and bought long lenses to photograph birds.
Having been involved in the production of several horse books, a couple of years ago I published a bird book 'Fleurieu Birds'. This is a photographic field guide of the birds seen in the Fleurieu Peninsula, which is south of Adelaide. Now in my retirement living in the Adelaide Hills, I spend a lot of my time pointing my camera at the feathered folk.
When not out with a camera I would encourage everyone to spend some of their time here.
